How to repair minor leaks in PPR pipe systems? On-site emergency plan

Step 1: Shut Off Water Supply

Locate your main valve - usually near the water meter or where the main line enters your home. For isolated repairs, modern PPR systems have sectional shutoffs.

️ Step 2: Prepare the Damaged Section

Clean the area with sandpaper until you see fresh polypropylene. For pinhole leaks:

• Wrap epoxy putty around the pipe like dental floss
• Apply silicone repair tape with 50% overlap

For joint leaks: Mark 1" above/below the leak for cutting. Measure twice - pipe sections are unforgiving!

Step 3: The Precision Cut

Use your pipe cutter perpendicular to the pipe axis - no angled cuts allowed! Deburr the fresh cut ends thoroughly.

Step 4: Fusion Time

This is where science meets plumbing:

1. Apply primer to pipe ends AND fitting sockets
2. Quickly spread fusion cement on both surfaces
3. ｉｎｓｅｒｔ pipe into fitting with a ¼ twist
4. Hold firm for 30 seconds - no movement allowed!

The cement creates a molecular bond stronger than the original pipe. Chemistry FTW!

Step 4: Fusion Time

This is where science meets plumbing:

1. Apply primer to pipe ends AND fitting sockets
2. Quickly spread fusion cement on both surfaces
3. ｉｎｓｅｒｔ pipe into fitting with a ¼ twist
4. Hold firm for 30 seconds - no movement allowed!

Step 5: The Moment of Truth

Wait 1 hour minimum before:

1. Slowly reopen main valve
2. Check joints with tissue paper (shows faint drips)
3. Monitor for 24 hours

Caution: If pressure drops significantly, you've got hidden leaks. Time for professional reinforcements.
